KARACHI:

The woman whose tortured, bound body was discovered on Tuesday evening near the Clifton China Port Sunday Bazaar has been identified, while Boat Basin Police have registered a murder case against unknown suspects.

According to police, the victim, identified as 49-year-old Shehnaz, was a widow and diabetes patient who went missing soon after leaving home in Baldia Town around 8pm on Saturday. Her children searched for her and lodged a missing person report at Madina Colony Police Station.

SHO Boat Basin Rashid Ali said the body was found in Clifton Block II with the hands and feet tied and clear signs of torture.

The perpetrators had disfigured her face and damaged her fingers in an apparent attempt to prevent identification through biometric methods. On Wednesday, the victim's son Adil Masih identified his mother through her clothing after seeing reports circulating on social media.

Adil told police the family had no known enmities. Shehnaz, mother of three sons and two daughters, had been living in a rented home.

Police say legal formalities are underway, after which the body will be handed over to the family. Boat Basin Police have filed FIR No 926/2025 under Section 302 (murder) on behalf of the state and transferred the case to the Clifton Division Investigation Unit.
