Murder convict gets capital punishment

An Additional District and Sessions Judge in Rawalpindi on Wednesday pronounced judgment in the high-profile murder case registered at Kallar Syedan Police Station, sentencing the accused to death upon the charges having been conclusively proven.
The convict has also been fined Rs500,000. Furthermore, he has been directed to pay Rs250,000 in compensation and to serve 11 years' imprisonment, in addition to a further fine of Rs200,000.
The court ordered that the convict be hanged by the neck until he is declared dead.
According to the prosecution, the accused, Muhammad Ashfaq, brutally killed a woman and injured another following a trivial dispute. Upon conviction, he was awarded the death sentence and a fine of Rs500,000 for the charge of murder; ten years' rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs200,000 for injuring the second woman; one year's imprisonment and a fine of Rs50,000 under Section 354; and a fine of Rs20,000 in connection with the weapons offence.
Kallar Syedan Police had registered the case in April 2023. Following the verdict, the City Police Officer (CPO) commended the investigation team for their efforts.
