RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) is observing a Black Day today to mark the overthrow of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto's elected government by General Zia ul Haq in 1977.

The party leadership and workers observe this day annually to pay homage to Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and to laud his services to the country, to democracy and to the poor. Several events have been organised across the country today to eulogize Bhutto.

President and Co-chairperson of PPP, Asif Ali Zardari said that July 5th is one of the darkest days in the history of the country and will be remembered as the Black Day for spawning militancy, sectarianism, tyranny and oppression on the one hand and systematic dismantling of the constitutional and legal edifice of the country on the other.

President Zardari also urged the people to "vow to banish from the constitution all undemocratic insertions made by the dictators from time to time."

Information Secretary of the Pakistan Peoples Party, Shujaat Haider Naqvi told APP on Sunday that PPP's Rawalpindi organisation has chalked out various programmes at the zonal level to condemn this unconstitutional act on the part of a general and to renew the party's commitment with democratic principles and protection of the rights of the poor.

A protest meeting would be held at jai shahadat in Liaquat Bagh, on Monday, against the tyrannical rule of General Ziaul Haque. Later a protest rally would be held from jai shahadat to Rawalpindi Press Club, he said.

He also added that a large number of the party workers and masses are likely to participate in the protest demonstration to register their anger against the toppling of a democratic government.

I am thinking more about PPP workers who were born on July 5th. They must be observing July 5th as Black Day as well as their Birthday. There is a lot of difference between Balck Day and Birthday.
