CM orders daily washing of garbage bins

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has warned that officials responsible for negligence will not be shown any leniency.

Presiding over a meeting to scrutinise "Key Performance Indicators" of deputy commissioners, she decided that secret teams will be sent to every district for supervision of the quality of governance.

The government warned of immediate action against private contractors of the Clean Punjab programme who are showing substandard performance.

The chief minister expressed strong anger over unsatisfactory situation of cleanliness in some cities.

She directed the authorities concerned to immediately suspend payments to the delinquent contractors.

She also directed relevant authorities to consider renewing the sanitation contracts due to the unsatisfactory cleanliness situation. On her directions, notices would be issued for failure to prevent stray dog bites and deaths due to falling into manholes and the relevant DCs would be reprimanded.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz took serious notice of free medicine not being completely provided to patients in some government hospitals.

She directed the relevant authorities to get the garbage bins cleaned, besides building waste enclosures in every city of the province in order to improve the standard of cleanliness. She also directed authorities to completely enclose waste enclosures by building boundary walls to keep the environment of cities clean and pleasant.

She said, "Garbage bins should be washed daily across Punjab, any negligence in cleanliness will not be tolerated."

She directed the relevant authorities to ensure exemplary cleanliness of parking areas, bus stands, and all public places.

She said that 24/7 monitoring through CCTV cameras will be conducted to permanently eliminate encroachments from Punjab, as illegal occupation and constructions will be digitally recorded in moments.

The chief minister directed to immediately remove carts obstructing free movement and issued strict orders to obtain written assurance from market administration in this regard. She directed the authorities responsible to ensure immediate and strict action against those violating government rules, besides arresting them. She resolved to make the urban environment clean, pleasant and safe for everyone, and directed the relevant authorities to take vigorous measures for cleaning the entrance and exit routes of every city, besides establishing green belts. She ordered steps for the safety and maintenance of electric buses running in districts.

She directed the authorities to immediately fix electric wires dangerously hanging in the markets, besides issuing strict directions to the electricity companies in this regard.
