Farmers receive tractors under green scheme

Subsidy project aims to make farmers self-reliant

Twenty-four farmers in Rawalpindi district have received tractors under the Chief Minister Punjab High-Power Green Tractor Scheme, each supported by a subsidy of Rs1 million.

MNA Tahira Aurangzeb distributed keys among the recipients.

Aurangzeb, accompanied by MPAs Shazia Rizwan and Tahira Mushtaq and Divisional Director Agriculture Extension Syed Shahid Bukhari, handed over tractors to 24 farmers, including three women.

She said that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz's vision is to stand with farmers because their prosperity leads to national self-sufficiency.

She added that when she was a councillor, she requested the establishment of Barani Agricultural University from Nawaz Sharif, and today the university, Nawaz Sharif Park, Sports Complex, Cricket Stadium, Divisional Public School, Metro Bus, and green electric buses have been delivered to Rawalpindi.

She noted that farmers are receiving interest-free loans through the Kisan Card and tractors with Rs1 million subsidy. Divisional Director Bukhari said 9,500 tractors have been distributed in Punjab in the first phase, with another 9,500 in the second phase, while 1,000 tractors were given free of cost.

Rawalpindi Division earlier received 562 tractors, with 165 for the Rawalpindi district. Additionally, 591 more green tractors are being allocated.

He said Rs57 billion in interest-free loans have been provided under the Kisan Card, 90 per cent of which have been repaid.

Farmers who received tractor keys included Asif Mahmood, Aamir Iqbal, Farhat Nawaz, Ahmed Nawaz, Riffat-un-Nisa, Fayaz Ahmed, Nasir Nadeem, Muhammad Imranul Haq, Muhammad Waqas, Sajid, Mahmood Sadaqat Hussain, Muhammad Ashraf and Habib Ahmed.
