Bail plea dismissed in RDA graft case

The bail application of Jamal Taj, brother of the deceased suspect in the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) Rs2.7 billion mega corruption case, has been rejected. Accountability Court Judge Sheikh Ejaz Ali announced the reserved verdict.
The court observed that the accused had admitted receiving millions of rupees from RDA funds into his personal account, which constitutes a crime.
Transferring and receiving government funds into a personal account are both offences, the court stated, adding that suspects involved in corruption are not entitled to leniency.
Prima facie, the accused are directly involved in looting the national exchequer and cannot be granted bail.
The defence argued that the accused could be placed on the ECL and his passport submitted, but bail should be granted. NAB prosecutors stated that all embezzled funds must be recovered from the suspects and that granting bail would allow them to flee abroad.
