ABOTTABAD:

The administration of Ayub Medical Complex (AMC) has made the provision of Institutional Private Practice (IBPP) mandatory for all medical staff, as part of a comprehensive strategy to address the ongoing shortage of healthcare professionals and enhance patient care.

As per the new policy, both senior and junior doctors will be required to remain on call during evening and night shifts, while the emergency operating theatre will remain open around the clock.

Professor Dr Abid Jamil, Chairman of the Board of Governors at Ayub Medical Complex, addressed the media on Wednesday, stating that these new measures aim to enhance the effectiveness, efficiency, and patient-centred approach of institutional practice.

He further mentioned that upgraded facilities for IBPP are being developed, with additional space being allocated to meet the growing demands of the programme.

A special committee has been established to ensure transparency and monitor which doctors are fulfilling their IBPP obligations. Under the revised schedule, official IBPP services will commence daily from 3 pm onwards.

Dr Jamil has instructed the Chairperson of Pathology and the Hospital Director to expedite the procurement of pathology kits to ensure that diagnostic services remain uninterrupted. He reiterated the administration's commitment to utilising all available resources to improve the quality of healthcare provided at the facility.

Additionally, Senior Registrars (SRs) have been tasked with regularly sharing the duty rosters of all medical staff. Evening rounds for consultants have been made mandatory, and a comprehensive list of the medical staff will be displayed prominently throughout the hospital.

The emergency operating theatre will remain fully operational 24 hours a day, ensuring that timely surgical interventions can be made available to patients. The administration also announced a substantial investment of Rs180 million to enhance neurosurgery services, alongside swift improvements in other departments.

Dr Jamil confirmed that work on the Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC) and clinical audits will commence shortly. Recruitment to fill vacant departmental posts will be conducted through open advertisements, and the provision of accommodation for doctors is being improved.
