LAHORE:

A case of alleged sexual assault has surfaced in Kot Lakhpat, where a mentally disabled young woman was discovered to be one month pregnant, prompting police to register a rape case against unidentified suspects.

The victim's family said she was taken to Lahore General Hospital after her health deteriorated.

During medical tests, doctors informed the family that she was pregnant despite being unmarried, raising immediate concerns about sexual exploitation.

Medical reports confirmed that the woman suffered from a mental disability, further deepening fears that she may have been subjected to prolonged abuse.

Police said that due to her condition, the victim's statement has not yet been recorded.

A case has been registered on the complaint of her brother, while police have begun examining CCTV footage from the surrounding area in an effort to trace the culprits.

Police sources said that no arrests have been made so far, but investigation teams are pursuing multiple leads, including DNA testing, information gathering from the neighbourhood, and questioning of potential suspects.

"The victim appears to have been targeted for sexual abuse over an extended period due to her vulnerable condition," a police official said.
