SBCA claims demolishing 1,858 buildings this year

The Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) has demolished than 1,858 illegal constructions so far this year, said the authority's spokesperson on Sunday.

Acting on public complaint, SBCA Director General Muzammil Hussain Halepota, directed demolition staff to halt illegal work on the first floors of two buildings in Bath Island and PECHS, the spokesperson said.

He further confirmed that operations have begun at four highly dangerous plots in Lyari and Gizri, while 23 buildings with unauthorized additional floors have already been dismantled.

Sindh Local Government Minister Nasir Hussain has issued special instructions for a large-scale crackdown against illegal constructions in the city. Acting on these directives, SBCA has expanded operations to District South, Korangi, Central, and East, where unauthorized portions, shops, and rooftops have been demolished.

Spokesperson Shakeel Dogar clarified that all actions fall under violations of approved maps and land-use regulations. DG Halepota, speaking to The Express Tribune, emphasised that illegal constructions will not be tolerated under any circumstances. He has instructed Director Demolition Rehan Khan to accelerate operations, ensuring that the campaign continues without discrimination.
