Jordan’s King Abdullah II has arrived in Islamabad for a two-day official visit, marking the first trip by a Jordanian ruler to Pakistan in more than two decades. The visit comes at the invitation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and is aimed at deepening bilateral cooperation.

Upon landing at Nur Khan Air Base on Saturday, the monarch was received by President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Minister for Climate Change Senator Musadik Malik, Minister of State for Education Wajiha Qamar, First Lady Asifa Bhutto Zardari, and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari were also there to extend a warm welcome to the Jordan Kind. The King was accompanied by a high-level delegation.

In a ceremonial display of respect, Pakistan Air Force JF-17 Thunder jets escorted the royal aircraft up to Islamabad as it entered Pakistani airspace.

In a statement, President Zardari said, Jordan King's visit to Pakistan would add “a new strategic dimension to bilateral ties,” noting that relations between Pakistan and Jordan are anchored in “historic brotherhood, mutual confidence, and shared values.”

In a statement, the Foreign Office said the high-level visit underscores the longstanding ties between Pakistan and Jordan and is expected to elevate the relationship to a broader strategic level.

During his stay in Pakistan, King Abdullah II will hold key meetings with President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and both sides will review the full spectrum of bilateral relations. Discussions are expected to focus on expanding collaboration and strengthening coordination between the two countries.

A special investiture ceremony will also be held at Aiwan-e-Sadr to confer Pakistan’s highest civilian award upon the Jordanian monarch. The Foreign Office added that the visit will help consolidate the longstanding partnership between the two nations and broaden the scope of future cooperation.
