Prep for fisherfolk festival

The coastal town of Badin, home to a teeming community of fishermen, is abuzz with activities ahead of the World Fisheries Day due on November 21.
Preparations are in full swing for a week-long fisherfolk festival in Badin, jointly organised by the Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum and Viva Welfare Foundation.
The festivities will run from November 15 to 21, 2025, with a three-day cultural fair scheduled at the coastal shrine of Sheikh Karhiyo Bhandari on November 15, 16, and 17.
The event aims to highlight the rights of fishing communities, promote coastal development, and raise awareness about environmental conservation.
According to organisers, Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum Chairman Syed Miran Ali Shah and Viva Welfare Foundation CEO Mustafa Saeem Ali Siddiqui will attend the fair on November 16 as special guests.
The vibrant celebration will feature cultural shows, musical performances, theatrical acts, poetry recitals, and other artistic activities. A large number of participants are expected, including fisherfolk families, farmers, civil society representatives, writers, poets, intellectuals, artists, elected officials, journalists, and government officers.
To promote the event, awareness campaigns are being launched via FM radio, mobile outreach, and social media platforms. Volunteers from the Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum will oversee logistical arrangements and manage all administrative aspects of the fair.
Organisers emphasised that the festival is not only a tribute to the fishing community but also a platform to advocate for sustainable coastal development and ecological preservation.
