LAHORE:

The 27th Constitutional Amendment Act, 2025 has been challenged before the Lahore High Court (LHC) for allegedly undermining judicial independence and altering the constitutional framework without due consultation.

The petition was filed naming the prime minister, the speaker of the National Assembly, and the Ministry of Law as respondents.

The petitioner contended that the amendment contradicts the preamble of the Constitution, arguing that it seeks to curtail the powers of the Supreme Court and thereby weakens the independence of the judiciary.

According to the petition, the amendment's provisions threaten the system of checks and balances envisaged under the Constitution.
