ISLAMABAD:

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has reserved its verdict on the admissibility of a petition seeking to restrain Sessions Judge Nasir Javed Rana from performing his duties. The petition was heard by Chief Justice Sarfraz Dogar, and filed by petitioner Osama Riaz.

The case pertains to observations made by the Supreme Court in 2004, which the petitioner claims have not been implemented. During the proceedings, advocate Riaz Hanif Rahi appeared on behalf of the petitioner.

Chief Justice Dogar questioned the timing of the petition, remarking, "The order dates back 22 years — where were you before? After 22 years, you suddenly remembered that the Supreme Court's order was not implemented?"

Responding, the lawyer argued that the issue had recently resurfaced in the media, saying, "The matter of time limitation is separate. The issue was highlighted in October 2025. According to the notification we have challenged, the judge continues to perform his duties."
