Universal Pictures has officially released the trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, the highly anticipated sequel to 2023’s global hit The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

The animated action-adventure, inspired by Nintendo’s 2007 video game Super Mario Galaxy, is set to hit U.S. theaters on April 3, 2026.

The trailer offers fans a first look at Mario and his friends venturing beyond the Mushroom Kingdom into outer space. Alongside returning voice stars Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek, the sequel also introduces new faces to the franchise. Brie Larson (Captain Marvel) joins the cast as Rosalina, while Benny Safdie (Happy Gilmore 2) lends his voice to Bowser Jr.

Directed once again by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic (Teen Titans Go!), the sequel’s screenplay is written by Matthew Fogel (Minions: The Rise of Gru). The movie is produced by Chris Meledandri for Illumination and Shigeru Miyamoto for Nintendo, continuing the collaboration that turned the first film into a billion-dollar success.

Released in 2023, The Super Mario Bros. Movie became one of the biggest animated hits in history, grossing over $1.3 billion worldwide. While critics gave it mixed reviews—earning a 59% Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes—it was a massive audience favorite with a 95% Popcornmeter rating.

With the addition of beloved galaxy-themed characters and an expanded universe, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie aims to take fans on a new interstellar adventure that could make it another blockbuster for Nintendo and Illumination.
