Classical music night draws diverse audience

The Punjab Arts Council Multan hosted a Classical and Ghazal Night, celebrating the country's enduring tradition of music and poetry.
The event attracted a large and diverse audience.
Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, Assistant Advocate General Kanwar Sajid Ali emphasised the timeless relevance of classical music, describing it as "our cultural treasure."
He noted that classical music has produced legendary names whose timeless compositions continue to be admired around the world. He also stressed the importance of introducing this rich heritage to younger generations of artistes. Multan Arts Council Director Saleem Qaiser highlighted the beauty and emotional depth of classical music.
He praised the dedication of passionate musicians who continue to keep the art form alive, stating that classical music enjoys universal appeal, with admirers found across the globe. Renowned vocalist Ustad Ijaz Hussain Tawakkal described classical music as "an art form for refined and cultured ears," likening it to "drawing silk." He commended the arts council for organising the event, calling it "a commendable effort to honour Pakistan's classical tradition."
The evening featured soulful performances by Ustad Ijaz Hussain Tawakkal, his sons Ali Raza and Khayam Tawakkal, along with Ustad Nadeem Riaz Malik, Ustad Ghulam Abbas Firasat, and Shamim Ansari, who presented classical ragas and ghazals.
