Village council chief, nephew shot dead

HARIPUR:

Chairman of Village Council Bheera, Haji Ghulam Nabi Khan, and his nephew Abdul Samad Khan were shot dead in their native village in Haripur.

Following the killings, family members and locals staged a protest at GT Road near Paniya Chowk, accusing police of collusion with the murderer.

Protesters claimed that Station House Officer (SHO) took a bribe of Rs50,000 to return a confiscated illegal weapon to the suspect, which was later used in the killing of two innocent people.

They alleged that the police had become protectors of criminals.

Senior police officers, including the SP Investigations, reached the site and held successful negotiations with protesters, assuring them of full justice.

The protesters then ended the blockade and returned peacefully with the bodies to their hometown.

Haripur District Police Officer (DPO) Farhan Khan took notice of the allegations and immediately suspended SHO Khalid Khan, ordering an inquiry.

According to police, the killings were the result of a personal feud. Rescue 1122 teams reached the scene and shifted the bodies—60-year-old Ghulam Nabi and 38-year-old Abdul Samad—to the Trauma Centre for postmortem.
