A speeding car driven by an allegedly intoxicated man ploughed into homeless people sleeping on a footpath near the Abdullah Shah Ghazi shrine in Clifton early Monday morning, killing two and injuring four others, including the driver and his companion. Police said the vehicle was travelling at a dangerously high speed when it went out of control, first hitting a motorcyclist before crashing onto the pavement.
The incident took place near the shrine and Icon Tower in Clifton Block IV. According to police, the white Toyota Corolla (registration number BRT-926) was moving at excessive speed when it lost control, struck a motorcyclist, and rammed into people sleeping on the roadside. The car and motorcycle were completely wrecked in the crash.
Rescue teams shifted the injured to Jinnah Hospital, where two men were pronounced dead.
Boat Basin SHO said the vehicle, registered in the name of Tahir Ali, was being driven by Ahed, who was reportedly under the influence of alcohol. Police have taken the injured driver into custody, and further investigation is underway.
