Khalid opens up on ex-boyfriend outing him, says he’s finally living his truth
Khalid opens up about being outed by his ex-boyfriend, calling the experience “annoying” and embracing authenticity

Khalid has opened up about the painful experience of being outed by his former partner, describing it as both frustrating and emotionally draining.
In a recent interview with Scott Evans, the singer recalled how his ex-boyfriend revealed his sexuality online last year without his consent.
“It was annoying as f*ck,” Khalid admitted. “It was something that happened years ago, and suddenly I had to deal with everyone talking about it again.” The “Location” singer explained that instead of writing a long statement, he simply tweeted the gay flag emoji. “Like, whatever. I’m gay. Let’s move on,” he said, emphasizing his refusal to let the situation control his narrative.
Khalid shared that he initially felt the urge to defend himself but later realized there was nothing to justify. “I thought, ‘What am I defending myself for or against?’ You can’t just tuck the gay back in the closet,” he said. His candid response underscores the challenges of authenticity under public scrutiny.
Speaking later on the Baby, This Is Keke Palmer podcast, Khalid revealed that he had planned to come out privately on his own terms. “Once someone else put it online, there was no turning back,” he said. “You can’t just sweep it under the rug. Life doesn’t stop, and I’m not stopping mine.”
Despite the hurt, Khalid said he has learned to embrace vulnerability and self-acceptance. “It’s hurtful, but I can’t be mad at myself for being genuine,” he reflected. The singer added that he wanted his music—not his sexuality—to remain his primary focus.
