Ariana Grande is teasing her return to the stage — but not in the way fans might expect.

In a new interview with The New York Times, the pop star revealed that she’s developing a mystery stage production that she describes as something she’s “very excited about and inspired by.” While speculation ran wild about a Broadway comeback, Grande clarified, “It’s not on Broadway, but it’s something that I’m very excited about and inspired by.”

The news comes as Grande prepares for her Eternal Sunshine tour, her first tour in seven years, set to begin next year. The singer recently reunited with her 13 co-stars Allie Trimm and Aaron Simon Gross, revisiting her 2008 Broadway roots. Her last major stage role came in NBC’s Hairspray Live! in 2016, where she starred as Penny Pingleton.

Grande’s schedule is packed with projects — including the upcoming Wicked: For Good, the sequel to Wicked, in which she stars as Glinda. She’s also slated to appear in the comedy sequel Focker In-Law and in Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story Season 13.

Discussing her evolving career, Grande reflected on her complex relationship with fame and pop music. After parting ways with longtime manager Scooter Braun, she says the time away helped her reconnect with her artistry. “There was something broken about my relationship to pop music that was healed recently through the time away,” she shared.

Grande also addressed recent fan backlash over missing the Wicked: For Good Brazil premiere due to flight delays, asking fans to “please don’t wish danger on us.” Despite challenges, the singer assured her supporters, “Music will be in my life forever.”
