KARACHI:

Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Pakistan chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman on Tuesday sharply criticised the Sindh government's performance, alleging that while it failed to install cameras to curb killings and street crime, it moved swiftly to set up cameras for e-challan fines. Speaking at a press conference at Idara Noor-e-Haq, Hafiz Naeem said the proposed 27th constitutional amendment seeks to impose government control over the judiciary. "Just like the 26th amendment, we completely reject the 27th amendment. It is an attempt to undermine judicial independence," he stated.

Hafiz Naeem claimed the 27th amendment would empower the government to transfer high court judges, calling the proposal "an assault on both the Constitution and democracy."

Calling for a change in governance, Hafiz Naeem announced a major public gathering titled "Badal Do Nizam" (Change the System) at Minar-e-Pakistan, Lahore from November 21-23.

Hafiz Naeem expressed concern over rising fatal accidents caused by dumpers, trailers and water tankers in Karachi. He alleged that some groups were trying to fuel ethnic tensions over such incidents, but "Karachi's people are now aware this is about lawlessness, not ethnicity."

He said Karachi had rejected PPP and MQM in national and local elections, yet the same forces were imposed again "through Form-47 manipulation."
