Emily Willis’ lawyer shares health update as lawsuit over rehab negligence continues in California

Former adult performer Emily Willis remains bedridden following severe neurological injuries caused by a cardiac arrest in 2024, according to her lawyer James A. Morris Jr.

Willis, whose real name is Litzy Lara Banuelo, is “permanently disabled” and continues to receive full-time care from her mother, Yesenia Cooper, at home in Utah. “She remains bedridden due to her neurological injuries,” Morris told The Mirror US, adding that while she is unable to speak, she can still make sounds and move her body slightly.

Cooper filed a lawsuit in December 2024 against Summit Malibu and its parent company, Malibu Lighthouse Treatment Centers, alleging “abuse of a dependent adult, professional negligence, negligence and fraudulent business practices.”

The suit claims the facility’s failure to provide timely medical care led to Willis’ cardiac arrest and subsequent brain injury.

Court documents indicate that Summit Malibu denied responsibility, stating Willis had refused medical advice and hospital transfers. The company argued it lacked authority to move her without consent. Morris disputes this, saying staff should have recognised her critical condition. “They should’ve transferred her to a hospital earlier and let doctors put a feeding tube in her,” he said.

The trial is set for May 6, 2026 in Santa Monica, following pre-trial hearings in February. Morris also addressed speculation that Willis may have locked-in syndrome but said no official diagnosis has yet been confirmed.

Willis’ mother continues to receive public support, with a GoFundMe campaign raising over $118,000 to assist with medical expenses and long-term care needs.
