An explosion occurred in a Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) police station in Peshawar Today (Sunday). Initial reports suggest that old explosive material kept in the CTD police station's storeroom detonated. The incident does not appear to be a terrorist attack, initially investigation suggested.

Two officers were injured, one of the injured officers has been moved to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) and the other injured officer has been moved to Lady Reading Hospital. One of the police officers, Bilal, succumbed to his injuries and passed away in the hospital.

According to initial investigation, the explosives were part of evidence kept in the CTD’s storage facility. Police and security forces arrived promptly at the scene, containing the situation and preventing further damage.

"All the prisoners have been safely evacuated", assured the City's Police Chief (CCPO) Mian Saeed. He confirmed that the blast occurred in the police station's armoury after old explosives detonated. The fire spread to nearby ammunition, triggering further explosions.

Police and security forces have cordoned off that area and clearance operations are underway. Bomb disposal, rescue and fire brigade teams remain on site, continuing their work. Inspector General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Zulfiqar Hameed, has directed the Additional IG CTD to submit a detailed report within five days.

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has expressed deep sorrow over the explosion at the CTD police station, paying tribute to the police officer who was martyred in the incident and extended heartfelt condolences and sympathy to the bereaved family.

It is always stored in Ammunution Magazines which have traverses and safety walls. Severe disciplinary action must be initiated against the senior officers whose negligence resulted in this ammunution accident and loss of lives. All Ammunution must be inspected periodically by Ammunution Technical Officers.
