Woman gives birth in rickshaw at hospital's gate in Hyderabad

Doctor rushes to deliver child as mother goes into labour

HYDERABAD:

In a heart-wrenching scene at the gate of the Government General Hospital on Hali Road, a pregnant woman gave birth in a rickshaw on Friday.

Asad, a resident of Sindh Industrial and Trading Estate (SITE) area was rushing his wife, Saba, to the hospital. However, the broken roads and the crazy traffic kept delaying them.

The bumps and anxiety sent Saba into more precarious stage as her husband drove the three wheeler full throttle putting all his skills on handle as lives hanged in balance. Just as Asad rode past the gate of Government General Hospital on Hali Road, Saba yelled that she can't hold no more get help immediately.

Asad left the rickshaw on the roadside and ran as fast as he could, bumping, dodging through patients, attendents in the busy government hospitals and landed in the office of Dr Nasreen after pushing aside her peon who had said, wait in the line. Dr Nasreen realizing the gravity of the situation rushed to the scene her staff tailing with equipment, kit and sheets.

The staff cordoned off the rickshaw pushing back the crowd of on lookers and covered it with bed sheets to shield the mother's dignity. Dr Nasreen with the help of female nurses helped Saba bring her child into the world in the most vulnerable of circumstances. There were tears of joy and congratualtions as she announced the safe birth of a baby boy. Despite the chaos, both mother and newborn were declared stable after the delivery.
