Beijing lauds Islamabad for supporting 'One-China' principle

China's Ambassador in Islamabad Jiang Zaidong has lauded Pakistan as China's "ironclad brother" and praised its "consistent and firm support" for the one-China principle, while announcing Beijing's decision to formally establish October 25 as the Commemoration Day of Taiwan's Restoration.
In a statement issued in Islamabad, Ambassador Jiang said the move - adopted by the Standing Committee of the 14th National People's Congress on October 24, 2025 - marked the 80th anniversary of Taiwan's return to China following Japan's defeat in World War II.
He said Pakistan has "always upheld the authority of UN General Assembly Resolution 2758" and "firmly supported China's position that Taiwan is an inalienable part of the People's Republic of China".
Jiang noted that the decision to establish the commemoration day was made personally by President Xi Jinping and enacted through strict legislative procedures, reflecting "the aspirations of the Chinese people and the determination of the nation to safeguard sovereignty and territorial integrity".
He said it also "demonstrates the Communist Party of China's steadfast resolve to fulfil its historical mission and achieve complete national reunification".
The ambassador said Taiwan's restoration in 1945 was "an important outcome of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and a compelling proof of China's recovery of sovereignty over Taiwan".
He pointed out that numerous streets, buildings, and institutions in Taiwan bear the name "Restoration," symbolising a shared national memory among people across the Taiwan Strait.
Recalling the historical background, Jiang said that under the Cairo Declaration (1943) and the Potsdam Proclamation (1945), the Allied Powers agreed that all territories Japan had taken from China, including Taiwan and the Penghu Islands, "should be restored to China".
Following Japan's surrender, he noted, China officially resumed the exercise of sovereignty over Taiwan on October 25, 1945.
