LAHORE:

The Child Protection and Welfare Bureau (CPWB) has rescued a 12-year-old domestic worker from a house in the Walton area where she had been allegedly subjected to physical abuse.

According to CPWB Chairperson Sarah Ahmad, a complaint regarding the matter was received through the Child Helpline. The girl was recovered from the residence of a doctor couple accused of routinely beating her over minor issues during the two years she had been employed there.

Chairperson Ahmad stated that the girl bore signs of torture on her head, arms, legs, and other parts of her body and she had been shifted to a hospital.

Sources in the bureau said the child's condition was unstable and she had been unable to provide accurate details about her parents.

Preliminary information suggests that she is a resident of Dera Ghazi Khan district.

The girl was presented before the bureau's special magistrate on Monday. She was admitted to Mayo Hospital on the magistrate's orders.

Officials said an FIR would be registered once the medical report would be received.
