Remodelling of Kacheri Chowk to begin in Nov

RAWALPINDI:

The long-awaited remodelling project of Kacheri Chowk - one of Rawalpindi's busiest intersections connecting the city, cantonment, and GT Road - is set to begin in the first week of November.

The project includes the construction of flyovers and underpasses from Police Annexy Chowk to University Chowk.

According to Rawalpindi City Traffic Police, over 200,000 vehicles pass through Kacheri Chowk every day, causing severe congestion at Annexy, Kacheri, and University chowks.

While some initial work has already started on the university side, full-scale construction will commence next month, after which Kacheri Chowk will be completely closed to traffic.

A comprehensive traffic plan has been finalised to ensure smooth flow during the project. City Traffic Officer (CTO) Farhan Aslam said additional police personnel will be deployed in three shifts for public convenience.

Under the plan, traffic from Rawat T-Chowk to Old Airport will use Bahria Town Phase-I and Gulrez routes to reach Bostan Khan Road and Car Chowk. Vehicles from Car Chowk will pass through Scheme III to Ammar Chowk and then to Old Airport Road.

Traffic from Jhelum Road to Peshawar Road, New Islamabad Airport, and Motorway will use the Attock Oil Refinery route from Morgah Turn, passing the Education Board office and Defence Road before reaching School Road via Khawaja Corporation Flyover.
