Court extends remand of main accused in Kohistan scandal

PESHAWAR:

The Peshawar Accountability Court has extended the physical remand of the main accused, Qaiser Iqbal, and his wife for four more days, in the Upper Kohistan scandal while another suspect, Ziaur Rehman, arrested a day earlier, has been handed over to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on a ten-day physical remand.

The hearing was conducted by Accountability Court Judge Amjad Zia, where NAB's Special Prosecutor Habibullah Baig and the investigation officer appeared before the court. During the proceedings, the investigation officer informed the court that the main accused and his wife were involved in the embezzlement of Rs37 billion. He further revealed that during a search of their residence, assets worth Rs14 billion were recovered, including gold, luxury vehicles, and other valuables.

The officer added that the investigation was still ongoing and further interrogation was required.
