CGA takes over Pakistan Post accounts

.

RAWALPINDI:

The chief accounts officer, under the directives of the comptroller general of accounts has assumed immediate control of all officers and staff associated with the Accounts Department of the Pakistan Post.

The move has been made in light of the Lahore High Court's (LHC) decision issued on May 22. According to the new orders, all accounts establishments will now function under the authority of the Controller General of Accounts.

They include assistant chief accounts officers, accounts officers, assistant accounts officers, junior accountants, senior auditors, junior auditors and other personnel working in the accounts section, whether attached with the director accounts, Pakistan Post Lahore, Pakistan Post Headquarters or field offices of postal circles.

All administrative and operational matters of these officials will be supervised by the chief accounts officer posted in Pakistan Post. The officer already had authority over transfers and other administrative affairs of Grade 18 and above officers, while the administrative control of officials up to Grade 17 had previously rested with Pakistan Post officers.

Some of the affected officers had earlier approached the court against the change in administrative control. Following this decision, these officers will now be entitled to receive an Audit and Accounts Allowance equivalent to 20% of their basic monthly salary, while Pakistan Post will be relieved of the financial burden of paying the salaries of thousands of such employees.
