COAS for stopping extremist ideologies

RAWALPINDI:

Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir has underscored the need for eradicating extremist ideologies and distorted interpretations of Islam, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a press release.

The army chief is currently in Egypt on a visit aimed at further strengthening military cooperation and defence collaboration between the two countries. During the visit, he met Egypt's Defence Minister General Abdel Majeed Saqqar, and Chief of Staff of the Egyptian Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Ahmed Khalifa Fathi.

The meetings discussed matters of mutual interest, the regional security situation, and ways to enhance bilateral defence ties, the ISPR stated. the army chief stressed that close defence cooperation between Pakistan and Egypt serves not only the interests of both nations but also contributes to peace and stability in the region.

At the Egyptian Ministry of Defence earlier, Field Marshal Asim Munir was presented with a guard of honour.

Later, he laid floral wreaths at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the grave of former Egyptian president Anwar Sadat.

The army chief also met Sheikh Ahmed El-Tayeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar University, and discussed challenges facing the Ummah. The Grand Imam shared his views on contemporary issues. The army chief stressed the importance of countering extremist ideologies and eliminating distorted interpretations of Islam. (WITH INPUT FROM APP)
