Crackdown against illegal arms dealers afoot

The district administration, following directives from the Punjab Home Department, has ordered a grand operation against illegal arms possession and the sale of prohibited ammunition across the district.
All licensed arms dealers have been directed to submit records of weapons and bullets sold since January 1.
The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) will lead the main operation against major arms dealers.
The crackdown will also target illegal arms couriers and suppliers. The Commissioner and Regional Police Officer have ordered strict surveillance of entry routes from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Additional personnel will be deployed at checkpoints to prevent the movement of illegal weapons.
Dealers found selling prohibited weapons or ammunition in violation of their licence will face action and possible cancellation of licences.
According to sources, Rawalpindi district currently has 2,450 licensed arms dealers.
