When news broke that thieves disguised as construction workers had stolen eight pieces of the French Crown Jewels from the Louvre in broad daylight, few could resist drawing a pop culture parallel, least of all Matt Bomer.

The actor, best known for his role as suave con artist Neal Caffrey in the hit series White Collar, took to Instagram with a post that instantly sent fans into a frenzy. Sharing a cryptic message referencing the heist, Bomer wrote, “I would like to state for the record that I had nothing to do with the Louvre” and fans knew exactly what he meant.

In the beloved USA Network drama, Caffrey was a charming thief and art forger who specialised in exactly this kind of sophisticated, high-stakes crime. His escapades often involved priceless art and impossible heists, much like the one that has stunned Paris.

To make things even better, Bomer’s former co-star Tim DeKay, who played FBI agent Peter Burke, cheekily commented on the post, ‘Yeah, we’ll see about that, Caffrey…’ The reply instantly reignited fan nostalgia, with many saying it felt like watching the duo back in action.

Fans joked that the real culprit behind the daring Louvre robbery might just be Neal Caffrey himself. Comments were flooded with laughing emojis, memes and pleas for a White Collar revival.

The Louvre heist, which reportedly took place in under four minutes during regular museum hours, has been described as one of the most audacious art thefts in recent memory. The stolen pieces, part of France’s royal collection, are said to be worth millions.

While authorities continue to investigate, White Collar fans are enjoying the moment, revelling in Bomer and DeKay’s playful exchange. For many, it’s a reminder of the show’s enduring charm and of a time when Neal Caffrey made crime look impossibly elegant.
