IT firm penalised for gender discrimination
'Becoming a mother should not be a barrier to a woman's career'

The FOSPAH has declared the termination of a woman employee during her maternity leave as an act of gender discrimination while imposing a fine of Rs1 million on a private IT company.
In her decision on the petition filed by Zainab Zehra Awan, FOSPAH Fauzia Viqar ruled that "becoming a mother should not be a barrier to a woman's career." She added that job security during maternity leave and safe motherhood are fundamental rights of every woman. She ordered Zainab's reinstatement.
