Streamer and cosplayer Emiru was reportedly assaulted during a meet-and-greet on the first day of TwitchCon 2025 in San Diego, sparking renewed concerns about creator safety at public events.

A video shared on social media shows a male attendee approaching Emiru, grabbing her, and appearing to lean in for an unsolicited kiss.

Security personnel quickly intervened and removed the individual, while Emiru briefly stepped away before returning to continue the session.

The clip has since gone viral, drawing widespread criticism of the behavior and calls for stronger on-site protection for streamers.

In a statement to Mashable, Twitch said the individual was immediately removed from the venue and banned indefinitely from both the platform and all in-person events.

“The safety and security of all those attending TwitchCon is our highest priority,” the company said. “The behavior displayed by the individual involved in this incident was completely unacceptable and deeply upsetting. Twitch has zero tolerance for harassment.”

Twitch community head Mary Kish told Mashable earlier that same day that education and proactive measures remain central to Twitch’s safety strategy.

She emphasized that the platform must continue “to be really aggressive in that space and be at the forefront of it.”

The incident follows ongoing criticism of TwitchCon’s security standards. In recent years, high-profile creators including Valkyrae and QTCinderella have voiced concerns about harassment and opted out of attending due to safety fears.

For Emiru, the encounter marks her second public harassment episode in less than a year, after a March livestream incident in Santa Monica drew police attention.
