Australian singer Sia’s estranged husband, Daniel Bernad, has requested more than $250,000 (£187,000) per month in spousal support following their divorce, according to court documents filed in Los Angeles. Bernad, a former radiation oncologist, said the payment is needed to maintain the “luxurious and upper-class lifestyle” he shared with the singer during their marriage.

Sia Furler, known for hits including “Chandelier” and “Elastic Heart,” filed for divorce in March citing irreconcilable differences. The couple married in December 2022 and share an 18-month-old son. Court papers state that Sia requested full legal and physical custody of the child, with visitation rights for Bernad.

In his filing, Bernad said he gave up his medical career to pursue a joint business venture with Sia — a ketamine treatment clinic launched in 2022. He claimed that after the marriage broke down, Sia withdrew funding for the project, leaving him without income.

“Orders are necessary at this time because I am financially dependent on Sia, the breadwinner in our marriage,” Bernad stated. “I have no income and Sia has ceased all funding for Modern Medicine.”

He said the couple’s monthly expenses exceeded $400,000, including private jets, luxury travel, fine dining, and multiple full-time staff. “We never needed to monitor our living expenses,” Bernad wrote, adding that he was requesting an additional $300,000 in legal fees and $200,000 for forensic accounting.

Bernad also said he would need years of retraining and exams to return to his previous profession. The 47-year-old lived in a hotel paid for by Sia after the split before moving into his current residence.

Representatives for Sia and Bernad have not publicly commented on the case. The singer was previously married to filmmaker Erik Anders Lang from 2014 to 2017.
