Levies man martyred in polio team ambush

PESHAWAR:

A Levies personnel was martyred on Tuesday when unidentified gunmen opened fire on a polio vaccination team in the Arkot area of Matta tehsil, Swat, during an ongoing anti-polio drive.

According to Swat District Police Officer (DPO) Muhammad Umar, the attackers targeted the security personnel assigned to protect the vaccination team.

The slain official, Abdul Kabir, sustained critical injuries in the assault and embraced martyrdom on the spot. His body was later shifted to a nearby hospital.

Following the attack, security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to track down the assailants.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the terrorist attack, expressing grief over the martyrdom of the Levies personnel.
