Faisalabad to host Sandal Bar Marathon

FAISALABAD:

The divisional administration is ramping up preparations for the upcoming Sandal Bar Marathon set to take place on October 26 to promote a healthy lifestyle among the citizens of Faisalabad.

Chairing a meeting, Commissioner Raja Jahangir Anwar emphasised the importance of finalising the starting and finishing points of the marathon in consultation with all stakeholders.

He highlighted that participation from all segments of society, including educational institutions,is essential to ensure the event's success. The commissioner also announced the revival of inter-school sports activities in the division.

He directed the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education and the sports department to initiate competitions and sought comprehensive plans for the Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, and Chiniot districts within a week. Local governmentshave been instructed to allocate funds to support the initiatives.

Commissioner Anwar revealed that 15 major roads in Faisalabad are being reconstructed using the Cold Milling Technology withan allocation of Rs1 billion.

The commissioner said efforts are under way to restore streetlights, lane marking, and carry out patchwork onroads across the city.

Encroachments are being cleared from eight key markets near the Clock Tower, and underground cabling is being implemented. Plans are also in place to begin construction of a parking plaza near Chiniot Bazaar.
