Bone marrow transplant to be offered soon

Minister vows strict action against illegal transplantation

LAHORE:

The Punjab government is preparing to launch a bone marrow transplantation project, Provincial Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique announced during a meeting held at the Punjab Human Organ Transplantation Authority (PHOTA) on Tuesday.

The minister said the government aims to initiate the bone marrow transplant project at the earliest.

"Our top priority is to ensure the safety and proper care of patients during transplantation procedures," he emphasised.

The PHOTA has been tasked with developing plans for the transplantation initiative.

Khawaja Salman Rafique reaffirmed the government's commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure across Punjab, adding that strict action is being taken against illegal human organ transplantation networks operating in the province.

He directed officials to expedite preparatory work to make the bone marrow transplantation project operational soon.

The meeting was attended by Additional Secretary Technical Dr Muhammad Waseem, PHOTA Director General Professor Muhammad Amir Zaman Khan, Punjab Healthcare Commission zCEO Dr Muhammad Saqib Aziz, PMA President Dr Muhammad Izhar Chaudhry, Prof Ghiyasun Nabi Tayyab and other senior officials.

The Minister also chaired a meeting in the Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Department on steps to improve the Universal Health Insurance Programme.

Various suggestions were presented by the Punjab Health Initiative Management Company. Khawaja Salman was briefed during the meeting about the monitoring framework, service delivery and steps taken for the convenience of patients.
