According to American Songwriter, 19-year-old Carolina Rodriguez, a college music student, described herself as Horan’s “biggest fan” before performing Swift’s emotional hit “Cardigan” for her Blind Audition. Hoping to showcase her vocal storytelling, Rodriguez impressed the judges — with Horan turning his chair almost immediately, followed later by Snoop Dogg.
After the performance, Horan praised her song choice, to which Rodriguez enthusiastically responded, “I love you!” The young singer then dashed off stage to retrieve a poster of Horan she had brought along, which the Irish musician graciously autographed. “I know where you have birth marks,” Rodriguez joked, declaring her longtime admiration for the former One Direction star.
Snoop Dogg humorously accepted defeat as Rodriguez joyfully chose Horan as her coach. The moment grew even sweeter when Rodriguez’s sister joined them on stage to celebrate. Horan later called her “an amazing pop singer,” expressing excitement to help her grow through the competition.
In a behind-the-scenes interview shared on YouTube, Horan discussed his approach for the season, emphasizing his focus on authentic vocal talent: “It’s all about the voice for me. The point of us facing the wall says enough — to be moved by a voice in the first place.”
The returning coach, who has previously won both seasons he competed in, aims for a third victory. “It’s scary, knowing one button can change someone’s life,” he said. “But that’s what makes it special.”
