As part of ongoing October initiatives marking Breast Cancer Awareness Month, oncologists urged women to speak out confidently, reject stigma, and prioritise preventive healthcare through annual mammograms and regular self-examinations to safeguard future generations.
Dr Hadia Aziz, Senior Medical Consultant and Oncologist at CDA Hospital, Islamabad, delivered an important message broadcast on the state's news channel, underscoring the vital importance of awareness and early detection in the fight against breast cancer.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Aziz encouraged women to take control of their health by undergoing regular screenings and adopting a proactive approach to early diagnosis. Drawing on her experience as a breast cancer specialist, she called on women to raise their voices and overcome the fear and social stigma associated with the disease.
She emphasised that open dialogue and preventive practices - including routine mammograms and self-examinations - are crucial in combating breast cancer effectively.
Dr Aziz urged that this October, every woman should make a personal commitment to break the silence, spread awareness, and place preventive care at the forefront to protect themselves and the women in their families.
Highlighting the importance of recognising early symptoms, she advised women to remain vigilant for warning signs such as lumps or thickening in the breast or underarm, changes in breast size or shape, nipple discharge, or skin dimpling.
