M. Night Shyamalan is officially returning to television with a brand-new live-action series inspired by Mattel’s iconic Magic 8 Ball toy.

The project marks the celebrated filmmaker’s latest foray into TV after his successful Apple TV+ psychological thriller Servant.

According to reports, Shyamalan will direct, co-create, and co-showrun the upcoming series, which is being developed by Mattel Studios. He will be joined by Brad Falchuk, best known for co-creating American Horror Story and Glee alongside Ryan Murphy. Falchuk will serve as writer, co-creator, and co-showrunner on the project, promising a mix of mystery, suspense, and psychological tension — hallmarks of both creators’ storytelling styles.

While plot details remain tightly under wraps, the concept of adapting Magic 8 Ball — a classic fortune-telling toy — hints at a mind-bending premise filled with supernatural intrigue and dark twists. The series is expected to blend Shyamalan’s signature suspense-driven direction with Falchuk’s experience in serialized television drama.

Mattel Studios has been expanding its entertainment lineup, following the success of Barbie and upcoming projects like Hot Wheels and Masters of the Universe. The Magic 8 Ball series continues that momentum, combining nostalgia with original storytelling aimed at both new and returning fans.

With Shyamalan’s history of unpredictable narratives and Falchuk’s track record in hit television, the Magic 8 Ball adaptation is shaping up to be one of the most intriguing upcoming TV releases of 2025.
