Katy Perry and former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau have confirmed their romance after being photographed sharing an affectionate kiss aboard Perry’s yacht, the Caravelle, off the coast of Santa Barbara, California in late September.

The 40-year-old pop star and 53-year-old politician were seen embracing on the upper deck of the 24-metre vessel, marking the first public confirmation of their relationship following months of speculation.

According to an eyewitness from a nearby whale-watching tour, “She pulled up next to us in her boat and then they started making out.” The witness later recognised Trudeau by his distinctive Haida raven tattoo, symbolising his connection to Indigenous Canadian culture.

The pair appeared relaxed and unbothered by nearby tourists, with Perry dressed in a black swimsuit and Trudeau seen resting his hand on her back as they leaned into each other. The moment comes as Perry continues her global tour, which has reportedly earned over $80 million to date.

Trudeau, who stepped down as prime minister earlier this year after nearly a decade in office, finalised his separation from wife Sophie Grégoire in August 2023. The former couple share three children: Xavier, 18, Ella-Grace, 16, and Hadrien, 11.

Perry, meanwhile, shares a five-year-old daughter, Daisy Dove Bloom, with actor Orlando Bloom. The couple ended their nine-year relationship earlier this year. She was previously married to comedian Russell Brand from 2010 to 2012.

Rumours of a romance between Perry and Trudeau first surfaced in July when the two were spotted dining together at Montreal’s Le Violon restaurant.
