The Seven Kingdoms are calling once again. HBO has released the long-awaited first trailer for 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms', a prequel to the global phenomenon 'Game of Thrones', reigniting excitement across the fantasy realm.
The six-episode series, set to premiere on January 18, 2026, will take viewers back a century before the events of 'Game of Thrones', when dragons were still a recent memory and the Targaryens ruled the Iron Throne.
The story follows two unlikely heroes — Ser Duncan the Tall (Peter Claffey), a humble hedge knight with a courageous heart, and his young squire Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell), who is secretly Prince Aegon Targaryen.
Based on George RR Martin's 'Tales of Dunk and Egg' novellas, the series promises a more intimate and character-driven journey through Westeros - less about power-hungry dynasties, and more about friendship, honour, and the early rumblings of history that shaped the Seven Kingdoms.
The impressive ensemble cast includes Finn Bennett, Bertie Carvel, Daniel Ings, Tanzyn Crawford, Sam Spruell, and veteran actor Danny Webb. Behind the scenes, the series brings together some of HBO's most trusted hands.
Martin himself co-wrote and executive produced the show alongside Ira Parker (House of the Dragon), with Owen Harris and Sarah Adina Smith sharing directing duties across six episodes.
Filmed in Belfast, Northern Ireland — the same land that brought 'Game of Thrones' to life — 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' looks set to capture the old-world grit and grandeur of Westeros, while charting a new emotional territory.
For fans hungry for more from Martin's world, this prequel promises not just familiar fire and blood, but also heart, humour, and humanity — proof that even in Westeros, legends begin with ordinary men.
