MatPat, best known as the longtime host of Game Theory, has revealed that he’s been working closely with Congress since retiring from YouTube earlier this year.

The creator, whose real name is Matthew Patrick, opened up in a recent interview with Dexerto about how his post-YouTube life has shifted toward advocacy and new creative ventures.

“We’ve been working to basically advocate for the creator economy and creator rights,” MatPat said, explaining that stepping away from weekly uploads gave him time to focus on meaningful change in the online creator space. Alongside his wife, Stephanie Patrick, he has been meeting with lawmakers to help them better understand how the creator economy functions. The couple even hosted a press conference at the U.S. Capitol, which quickly sparked fan jokes about a potential presidential run in 2028.

In addition to his advocacy efforts, MatPat launched Creators in Fashion, an initiative that connects digital creators with the fashion industry. Partnered with VidSummit, the event aims to help creators develop personal brands and explore how online influence shapes modern style and business.

When he’s not working, Patrick has been catching up on gaming and entertainment he missed during his years of nonstop content creation. He recently finished Split Fiction with his son and began Hollow Knight: Silksong.

Reflecting on YouTube’s current state, MatPat said audiences are “shifting away from the MrBeastification” of the platform, showing renewed interest in authentic, creator-driven content.
