Taylor Swift has revealed the amusing reason why Ed Sheeran discovered her engagement to Travis Kelce on Instagram rather than through a personal message.

During her recent appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Swift clarified the situation that had sparked plenty of fan curiosity.

The conversation began when Fallon and Swift played a light-hearted game in which he had to identify which internet rumour about her was true. Among the options was the claim that Ed Sheeran found out about her engagement on Instagram—a story first mentioned by Sheeran himself in an interview with Andy Cohen for SiriusXM’s Small Stage Series.

When Cohen asked Sheeran, “Instagram?” he replied, “Yeah,” confirming that he saw the post like everyone else. “You didn’t even get a DM in advance?” Cohen asked, and Sheeran responded, “No.”

On Fallon’s show, Swift confirmed, “That’s so true,” before offering a candid explanation. “But I have the perfect explanation. He doesn’t have a phone,” she said, drawing laughter from the audience. “This is one thing I love about him. It’s very eccentric. Love it. But when I’m going through my texts being like, ‘Who have I texted within the last month?’ he just wasn’t there.”

When Fallon asked how she contacts him, Swift replied, “You have to email, and if you want to set up a FaceTime, he has to find an iPad. They have to give it to him like he’s a child.”

Swift affectionately concluded, “This is one of my absolute favourite people on the planet. The news came out, and I was like, ‘Oh my God, we forgot to call Ed.’”

Swift and Sheeran have shared a long creative partnership since first collaborating on "Everything Has Changed" in 2012, followed by "End Game", "Run", and "The Joker And The Queen". In 2024, Sheeran joined Swift on stage during the Eras Tour in London, performing their duet to fans’ delight.
