HYDERABAD:

A man has been arrested for allegedly shooting a 25-year-old schoolteacher in Hyderabad after she reportedly rejected his repeated marriage proposals.

The incident occurred near Naseem Nagar intersection on Friday, as the victim, Uzma Hattar, was returning home from her workplace — a private school — with her brother on a motorcycle.

Uzma sustained three gunshot wounds in the attack and was rushed to Liaquat University Hospital, where she remains in critical condition.

According to a police spokesperson, Prem Oad was arrested on Saturday by Naseem Nagar Police and has been named in a case registered under sections 324, 504, and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code. The police also recovered a 30-bore pistol allegedly used in the shooting.

The FIR was registered by Arshad Nazeer Hattar, Uzma's brother and an eyewitness to the incident.

In a separate incident, a minor scuffle among children escalated into a violent clash between neighbours in Hali Road, Hyderabad.

Police have booked a man and his four sons for allegedly opening fire and stabbing two men during the altercation.

On Saturday, police arrested Muhammad Rafiq Qureshi and his son Bilal, while Waqar, Babar, and Shahbaz remain on the run, along with the repeater gun allegedly used in the attack.

An investigation is underway to apprehend the remaining suspects.
