Pakistan’s junior tennis team pulled off a remarkable victory on the second day of the ATF 12 & Under Intercontinental Team Championships 2025, outplaying strong contenders New Zealand 2–1 in an exciting clash.
Placed in Group C alongside Korea and New Zealand, Pakistan showcased determination and resilience in Shymkent, Kazakhstan, where 12 nations from across the globe are competing for glory.
The event features teams from Australia, Africa (CAT), China, Chinese Taipei, South America (COSAT), Hong Kong, Kazakhstan, Korea, New Zealand, Pacific Oceania, Pakistan, and Thailand.
The win came just a day after Pakistan’s narrow 2–1 loss to Asia’s top team, Korea, in a nail-biting contest. Despite that setback, the young side bounced back strongly to register a much-needed triumph over New Zealand. With this result, Pakistan is now set to face Australia in the quarterfinals tomorrow.
Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) President, Mr. Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi, praised the team’s effort, stating: “Our boys are going well in the tournament. Against top teams like Korea yesterday, they played really well and I hope they continue this performance.”
Echoing his sentiments, PTF Secretary-General Col. Zia-ud-din Tufail lauded the squad’s consistent form. “Our team is performing well and will continue the same performance in the championships,” he remarked.
The victory against New Zealand not only boosts Pakistan’s confidence but also underlines the talent and potential of the country’s upcoming generation of tennis players. With a quarterfinal against Australia on the horizon, the young Green Shirts will look to carry their momentum forward and cement their place among the top contenders of the competition.
