Taylor Swift once had the chance to join The Vampire Diaries, but she turned it down, according to series star Ian Somerhalder.

Speaking during a panel at FanX Salt Lake Comic Convention, the actor revealed that the Grammy-winning singer was approached for a role in the hit CW fantasy drama but ultimately declined.

“I think Taylor Swift, we offered this role, and she was like, ‘No,’” Somerhalder told the audience with a laugh. While Swift never appeared in the series, her potential involvement highlights the show’s close connection with major music acts throughout its run.

Music was a defining element of The Vampire Diaries, which premiered in 2009 and became one of the CW’s most successful shows. Somerhalder noted that the Season 1 soundtrack alone sold around 15 million copies, praising co-creators Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson along with music supervisor Chris Mollere for shaping the show’s signature sound.

Although Swift did not join, another global superstar had ties to the production. Somerhalder recalled how Lady Gaga, then dating actor Taylor Kinney, frequently visited the set in Georgia during the early 2010s. Her presence often drew cast and crew members to watch her casually support her boyfriend during filming.

Reflecting on the show’s impact, Somerhalder credited its music for elevating emotional moments despite limited budget constraints. “We had incredible music. It really lifted and elevated these moments,” he said.

While fans never saw Taylor Swift in Mystic Falls, The Vampire Diaries continues to be remembered for its cultural influence, iconic soundtrack, and brush with some of pop culture’s biggest stars.
