There’s nothing quite like a leak coming from official sources—and that’s exactly what happened with Forza Horizon 6. The hotly anticipated sequel to 2021’s Mexico-set FH5 was accidentally outed by Microsoft’s own Forza Horizon Instagram account, which prematurely revealed that the “Horizon Festival is heading to Japan.” Oops. Thankfully, the full announcement followed just hours later during Xbox’s Tokyo Game Show broadcast, making it official.
The early slip was clearly meant to be part of a major reveal timed for Microsoft’s Japanese showcase. While the leak was a bit awkward, it wasn’t disastrous given how close it came to the actual announcement. Alongside trailers for Ninja Gaiden 4, Microsoft Flight Simulator, and Mistfall, the reveal confirmed what many fans had already speculated: Forza Horizon 6 is set in Japan.
Rumors had long pointed to Japan as the next destination, and it marks another bold shift in scenery for the franchise. After the winding country roads of FH4’s U.K. setting and the vibrant deserts of FH5’s Mexico, Japan offers yet another dramatic change—combining neon-lit cities, mountainous landscapes, and quiet rural towns.
While no actual gameplay footage was shown, the announcement leaned heavily on atmosphere. A cinematic teaser showcased a garage wall filled with memorabilia from previous games, ending with a window shot of Mount Fuji—an unmistakable nod to the game’s new location.
Forza Horizon 6 is expected to launch sometime next year. Until then, fans can look forward to more teasers and details as the release draws closer.
