Lana Del Rey delivered a surprise performance in Santa Barbara after overhearing a local band covering her 2014 hit West Coast.
The band, Fastest Kids in School, were playing outside a taproom when Del Rey, who was nearby, approached them and asked if she could join in. According to band member Dan Grimes, the moment came about by chance.
“She just happened to be walking by while we were playing her song and motioned to see if we wouldn’t mind if she came on stage. Of course we obliged and that is when my head exploded. She was just ‘out getting some ice cream’ she said,” Grimes shared on social media.
The collaboration, though limited to one song, quickly spread online after being shared on the band’s Instagram page. “Super honoured @honeymoon joined us on stage at Institution today! Truly a show we’ll never forget! #FastestKidsInSchool,” the group posted alongside footage of the performance.
Fans awaiting new material from Del Rey were quick to celebrate the impromptu appearance. The singer previously revealed that her upcoming country-inspired album, Stove, has been delayed until early 2026.
Originally expected in spring 2025, the project was pushed back after Del Rey decided to add six additional tracks. She has been developing the album with Nashville producer Luke Laird and frequent collaborator Jack Antonoff.
For those hoping to see a full set, Del Rey is next scheduled to appear at the Harvest Moon benefit show in Lake Hughes, California, on October 25.
