Ed Sheeran has revealed he runs a “Finsta,” or fake Instagram account, to stay connected with culture, music and personal interests online.

The singer spoke during SiriusXM’s Small Stage Series in New York City, where he answered questions from Andy Cohen about his digital habits.

“Yes,” Sheeran replied when asked directly if he had a hidden profile. Pressed further on whether he used it to follow ex-partners, the musician explained, “It’s more, like, trying to stay plugged into culture, music. I feel like when I didn’t have a Finsta, I missed so much, like new music and new artists. I’m plugged into areas of the internet that interest me.”

Among the areas Sheeran follows are British rap and Irish folk music, which he described as long-time passions. He also admitted to spending time on watch blogs, noting, “My algorithm is very like music and watches.”

While the singer maintains public accounts across platforms including Facebook and TikTok, he is known for taking regular breaks from social media, often stepping away from Instagram at the end of each year.

In 2023, Sheeran explained in a video that he had reduced his online activity due to challenges in his personal life, adding that he did not want to “pretend to be something I’m not.”

Sheeran has previously spoken about the impact of negative online comments, telling The Sun that “one comment ruins your day” and that trolls have pushed him off certain platforms. Despite this, he continues to use his Finsta as a private outlet to stay engaged with content that matters to him.
